Merlin E. Smith, I

Merlin E. Smith, I, age 85, of Troy, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021 in Troy.  He was born on June 15, 1936 in Buena Vista, OH, to the late Clarence and Mina (Sowards) Smith. 

Merlin is survived by his wife of 55 years: Linda S. (Snook) Smith; three children: Merlin E. Smith, II, of Piqua, Michele Hinrichs of Englewood and David Smith of Troy; three siblings: Violet Taylor of Rarden, OH, Louise Taylor of South Shore, KY and Kenneth Smith of Friendship, OH; four grandchildren: Amos, Zach, Megan and Molly; one grandchild to come: Hiram Merlin; and two great grandchildren: Eddie and Harmony.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers: William and Marvin Smith.

Merlin was a graduate of Portsmouth West High School.  He proudly served his country as a member of both the US Marine Corps and US Army.  Merlin was a longtime dedicated member of AA.  He was a retired toolmaker. 

Celebration of Life will be held at 5:00PM on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with military honors.  The family will receive friends prior from 4:00-5:00PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
