God received another angel on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 as EMMA JEAN POWELL, 101, took her last breath here on earth.  She last resided at Hospice of Miami County where she received the utmost care.  Can’t express enough gratitude for the dignified loving care she received in her last days while there.

Jean was born on March 10, 1920, in Monterey, Tennessee to the late Quinton and Josephine Matthews. She was married to the late Cicero Boyce Hill for 44 years and later married Robert Powell of Findlay, OH until his passing in 1989. 

Jean is survived by four children, Donald Hill (Sally) of West Milton, Stan Hill (Shirley) of Smyrna, GA, Sandra Taylor (Gary) of Melbourne, FL and Beverly Richey (Frank) of Troy, OH; 6 grandchildren, Kevin Hill  (Trish)  of Troy, Tiffany Taylor Sergis (Steve) of Melbourne FL, Matthew Taylor of Melbourne FL,  Jason Gheen (Hazel) of Piqua, Heidi Hill McCravy (Derrick) of Powder Springs, GA and Andria Gheen Burghardt (Derek) of Troy; 17  great grandchildren;  2 great- great grandchildren; and several step grandchildren.  She is also survived by her brother, Fren Matthews of Melbourne, FL along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Jerry Hill of Columbus, a grandson, Todd A. Hill of Troy, one brother, Fraud Matthews of Tennessee, and two sisters, Pansy Bowe and Vaunoy Matthews, both of Florida.

For many years, Jean resided in Melbourne, Fl and was an active member of the Eau Gallie Baptist Church where she loved to sing and listen to hymns.  She then moved back to Troy, OH in 2017 where she resided at Brookdale Senior Living before moving to Piqua Manor for a short time.

She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her. 

Not only was she a kindhearted person, she was very strong-willed.  She surprised her family when she purchased her own Lexus when she was 95 and continued making snow angels at 98. 

Jean always did things with endless compassion to provide for her family.  She retired from Dinner Bell Foods of Troy.   Her greatest love was spending time with friends and family. 

Visitation will be Friday, September 24th from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Baird Funeral Home, Troy.  A service to honor Jean’s life will be held immediately following visitation at 12:00 p.m.  A procession will follow to Riverside Cemetery, Troy, for the interment and final resting place.
