Dennis Becker Obituary

Dennis R. Becker, age 79, passed away unexpectedly while mowing his lawn Tuesday, April 12, 2022, at his residence.

He was born November 12, 1942, to the late Raymond L. and Florence M (Sass) Becker.    On January  5, 1964, he married Sharon Wolfe of Covington, Ohio.

In addition to his wife, Dennis is survived by one sister:  Darlene (Nick) Mott of Tipp City;  five nieces and nephews:  Sara Durham, Tim Wolfe, Patrick Wolfe, Kelly Mott, and Deanna Toombs; and close friends Mark Earhart and Eric Lorents.  Also surviving are Dennis and Sharon’s 4 legged children:  Scooter, Maggie, and Molly.  Dennis found joy feeding birds.

Dennis proudly served his country as a US Marine in 1966-1968.  He had a passion for fishing. He was a member of the Ohio Bass Federation, where he served 25 years on the Board of Directors, and 15 of those years he was President.  Besides fishing, he also enjoyed bowling on teams with his father.  Another special activity Dennis and Sharon shared with enthusiasm was going on various bus trips.  They attended Troy Church of the Brethren.

Dennis was a leader, with a servant’s heart.  He drove a bus for several years picking up preschool children and taking them to Piqua Head Start.  Sharon rode along on the bus to help the children get their seatbelts on and off.  Most every Thanksgiving prior to COVID,  Dennis worked at the

El Sombrero Community Thanksgiving Meals.  Sharon answered the phone, while Dennis wrote the people’s orders on cards and then organized routes for the volunteer drivers to deliver the meals.

Dennis and Sharon were very active members of the Troy Senior Citizens Center for many years,  sharing the workload at Strawberry Festivals and yearly Fall Bazaars; and  Dennis served as  Vice President a couple years.

Dennis had the gifts of artistic ability and organization!  After attending Dayton Art Institute, he worked as a Commercial Artist and drew detailed layouts of machinery for New Holland and New Idea Farm Equipment and later did architectural projects for Joseph Wagner Architects.

Dennis never met a stranger, and made friends with many people as they ate out nearly every day.   A special part of their week was meeting with a group of friends at Tim Horton’s on Wednesday and Saturday mornings and at J's Cuisine on Mondays with friends.    Dennis attended the once a month breakfasts at the Miami Valley Veterans Museum.

Family will receive friends, Friday, April 29, 2022 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy from 12:00-2:00 with a Memorial Service at 2:00, with Pastor Jon Keller officiating, followed by a Military Tribute.   Burial at Riverside Cemetery in Troy.

It was Dennis’ desire that instead of flowers, memorial contributions could be made to The Miami Valley Veterans Museum,   2245 S. County Road 25A,     Troy, Ohio 45373.   Condolences may be made to the family at
