Betty Jean (Etherington) Sphar died Friday, March 16, 2018. Born May 27, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Helen Etherington. She was married to John E. Sphar for 64 years before he passed away in 2010. Betty worked for many years, starting her employment at age fifteen at Kay's Hamburger Shop. She then went to J.C. Penney's where she worked in the shoe and men's department for forty-four years before retiring when the store closed. Her favorite past times were traveling to car shows with John, visiting with her family, collecting cardinal figurines, and playing Rummikub.
She is survived by daughters - Jean Schneider (Craig) of Coopersburg, Pa., Beverly Westerling (Jon) of Troy, and Janet Keyser of Versailles, Ohio. She had six grandchildren, Cinda Westerling Alspaugh (Jay), Mark Westerling (Kelly), Erick Schneider, Andrea Schneider Alfieri (Charlie), Joshua Keyser (Tracey) and Jessica Keyser Austen (Chris), and step grandson, David Keyser. She is also survived by six great grandsons, four great granddaughters, and one great-great grandson. Betty is survived by sister Patty Goetz (Joe) of Piqua. She was predeceased by brothers, John and Bill Etherington and sister Juanita Etherington King.
Calling hours will be on Monday, March 19, 11:00 am-1:00 pm at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy. A memorial service will follow at 1:00 pm. Interment will be at Miami Memorial Park in Covington.
