Belva (Supinger) Bemus Obituary

Belva Supinger Bemus passed away suddenly Sunday, March 8, 2020 in Dunedin, FL. surrounded by her family. Survived by sons, Brad (Laura) Bemus of Troy and Bart (Lisa Oksman) Bemus of Rochester, NY; grandchildren, Benjamin Bemus of Hillard, OH, Andrew Bemus of Harper’s Ferry, WV, Libby (Jake) Langston of Troy, and Max (Anna) Bemus Tower of Eugene, OR, great grandchildren, Reid and Luke Langston, and Addy Bemus, brother and sister-in-law, Ronald “Butch” and Beverly Supinger of Piqua.  Her parents and husband of 58 years, Dick preceded her in death.

Belva was a graduate of Miami Valley Hospital School of Nursing and received a Masters Degree from Central Michigan University in Health Care Administration.  She was board certified in Nursing Administration, Advanced by the American Nursing Association.  An active member of the American Organization of Nurse Administrators, American College of Healthcare Administrators, American College of Healthcare Executives, a fellow in the American College of Medical Administrators, Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society of Nursing.

She has served as President of the Ohio Organization of Nurse Executives (a division of Ohio Hospital Association) and chair of the Ohio Council of Nursing (the advisory committee of the Ohio Department of Health).

Belva retired in 1997 as Vice President of Nursing at Bellefontaine Hospital after serving 7 ½ years.  Previously she was Director of Nursing at Dettmer Hospital, Stouder Hospital and Piqua Hospital, at the time of the merger.  She had been employed at Dettmer Hospital, 32 years.  Her first position she was appointed Head Nurse of Neurosurgery at Miami Valley Hospital.  Belva served on a committee with Senator Merle Kerns to bring the Nurse Practitioner Program to Ohio. 

She belonged to several local boards, committees and organizations throughout the years, the Community Action Committee, CC Hayner Foundation, Past President of Beta Sigma Phi and American Field Service among others.  She attended the First United Methodist Church in Troy.

Services will be held at 10AM on Monday, March 16, 2020 at the Baird Funeral Home in Troy.  Burial will follow in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua.  The family will receive friends from 3-5PM on Sunday, March 15, 2020 at the funeral home.
