Allen Farrara Obituary

Allen Scott Farrara, known to all as Scott, age 67, of Troy, OH, formerly of North Haledon, NJ, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his immediate family on Saturday, November 20, 2021.

Born May 29, 1954 in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Allen and Norma (Daprado) Farrara, Scott was raised in New Jersey and Levittown, PA before attending Philadelphia College of Art. Scott met his wife Barbara “Vaka” when they were employed at the Moravian Pottery and Tile Works of Doylestown, PA in 1980. They settled first in Manhattan, NY as Scott started what would be a twenty-five year career in staging and audio/visual sales. After the birth of their daughters, Sophia and Jacqueline, the family moved to New Jersey where they lived until Scott's retirement in 2015 when he and Vaka moved to Troy to live near Vaka's family farm and pursue their passions and mutual interests in ceramics and other studio arts.

Scott overflowed with love for his family and friends and reveled in community. His ceramics studio, Almost Normal Design Studio, was as much a workshop as it was a gathering place, and was frequently utilized as his “hokey home theater,” something between a living room and a drive-in. Scott openly and selflessly shared his talents, a natural teacher, he taught ceramics at the Hayner Cultural Center in Troy. He was also an active member of the Crossroads Railroad Club in Vandalia, OH.

Scott is survived by his wife of 34 years Barbara S. “Vaka” (Pereyma) Farrara; two daughters, Sophia, her husband Evan of Atlanta, GA, and Jacqueline of Kingston, NY;  a brother, Raymond Farrara, his wife Margo and their children Lewis and Emily of Ft. Myers, FL; a brother-in-law, Marco Pereyma, his wife Agnes and their five children, Pauline and Marie Anne of Paris, France, Sophie of Wycokff, NJ, and Maximilien and Constantine of Binic, France; a sister-in-law, Christina O’Neal, her husband Robert of Troy, OH and their three children, Maire of Berlin, Germany, Tim, his wife Shelley of New York, NY, and Helen and her husband Adolfo of Troy, OH.

Graveside service will be held at 11:30 AM on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 at Riverside Cemetery in Troy.

Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bairdfuneralhome.com or Almost Normal Design, 205 N. Main Street, Casstown, OH 45312.
