Rose Mary Accurso, age 87, of Casstown, Ohio, peacefully passed on April 6, 2026. Rose was born July 20, 1938, in New York, New York, to the late Alfred and Dorothy Fern (Douvell) Dexie.
Rose is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, John J. Accurso. Through nearly seven decades, they demonstrated a marriage and partnership grounded in trust, respect, patience, and steadfast love. She is also survived by her sister and best friend, Dorothy Young, with whom she shared every one of life’s milestones with unwavering love and laughter.
John and Rose built a beautiful family that includes their four children: Debbie Accurso of Surprise, Arizona; Karen (John) Little of Troy, Ohio; Johnnie (Dianna) Accurso of Springfield, Ohio; Kevin Accurso of Casstown, Ohio; and daughter-in-law Jean Accurso of Dublin, Ohio.
They were active and proud grandparents to nine grandchildren—Cori Jo Kantner, Christianne Shea, Stephanie Little, Nicole Adkins, Juliane Accurso, Jenilee Accurso Charboneau, Jonathon Accurso, Alivia Accurso, and Addison Accurso—and twelve great-grandchildren.
For 30 years, Rose could be found working with John and her family at the Sunoco Drive Thru, where she would occasionally fake a limp for an extra tip. But her true lifelong work was fiercely loving her children, grandchildren, and family.
A natural matriarch, she filled her home with love, humor, and generosity—the kind of home where there was always more than enough food and always room for one more. Rose—without fail—made trays of baked ziti, meatballs, and “gravy,” feeding everyone who walked through her door. She treated shopping like a competitive sport, proudly finding the best deals and refusing to pay full price for anything. Her house was spotless and well defended—no bug or crumb ever stood a chance. She loved bingo, a little gambling, and keeping up with the latest gossip, and she made sure her grandchildren learned all the essentials early on.
She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. To honor Rose, her family asks others to give in the ways she so often did. Rose and John enjoyed buying children’s bikes and donating them to local police departments. She also purchased coats and backpacks—often found on clearance—to give to organizations supporting children in need. Monetary donations can be made to Toys for Tots with her in mind. Please keep Rose in your prayers.
