Roger Harold Kirk

Roger Harold Kirk, age 98,of Casstown, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at Vancrest-Upper Valley, Troy. He was born January 10, 1928, on the family farm near Casstown, to the late George and Dorothy (Moyer) Kirk.

Those left to cherish his memory include wife: Nancy; and his two children: Barbara Bowman of Casstown, and Stephen (Lori) Kirk of West Milton; six grandchildren: Brian (Jen) Bowman, Molly (Matt) Adams, Missy (Jason) Svajda, Lindsay (Corey) Kizziar, Kelsi (Kyle) West and Logan Kirk; and twelve great grandchildren: Alyssa Bowman, Emma Bowman, Cody Adams, Dustin Adams, Dalton (Kaitlyn) Adams, Jayden Svajda, Jerika (Hunter) Leighton, Levi Kizziar, Ethan Kizziar, Rylee Kizziar, Kaylen West and Keira West. A brother, Tom Kirk, also survives. He was preceded in death by one sister: Betty; three brothers: King, Don and Chuck; and one son-in-law: Bob Bowman.

He was a graduate of Lostcreek School, Casstown, in 1947, and played sports. He worked at Hobart Manufacturing until he was drafted into the Army. It was during his basic training leave that he married his sweetheart, Nancy Burton, on March 16, 1951. They were married for 75 years. After completing his service in Korea, he continued to work at Hobart Manufacturing and did so for 41 years. After he retired, he worked for Enterprise Rent-A-Car for 20 years. He was head usher at Casstown Methodist Church for 68 plus years.

Roger was quite a sportsman. He played and managed a team in baseball and then softball in Troy and Piqua. After he became eligible to play senior softball, he played in a league that traveled the different states. He and his brother, Don, played on the same team. They won the Senior Olympics Tournament in Baton Rouge, LA, in 1996. Each received an Olympic ring which they were proud of. Roger played until he was 87. He was a huge fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds, but he never forgot his local Miami East Vikings. He loved seeing his two children play and then his grandchildren and even great grandchildren. He loved cheering them on. During his time at Vancrest, he enjoyed saying “Hi!” to everyone he met in the hallway or as he passed by their rooms.

Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, September 14, 2026, at Baird Funeral Home in Troy. Burial will follow in Casstown Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that people attending wear red in honor of his love for The Ohio State Buckeyes and the Cincinnati Reds.
