Rita Ann Burnside

Rita Ann Burnside, age 69, of Troy, OH passed away on April 6, 2026 at her residence. She was born on May 13, 1956 in Troy, OH to the late Donald and Rachel (Artz) Niswonger.

She is survived by her three children: Ben Burnside of Dayton, OH, Erin Burnside of Troy, OH and Katie Burnside of Troy, OH; four siblings: Ronald (Julie) Niswonger of Troy, OH, Daniel Niswonger of Troy, OH, Dale Niswonger of Belleville, IL and Philip Niswonger of Oxford, OH; nine grandchildren: Madison, Andrew and Bentley Burnside, Nevah Bragg, Kennadie Barnhart, Bryon, Mason, Erionna and Elionna Thompson and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was a 1974 graduate of Miami East High School. Rita then earned her Bachelor’s Degree from Judson College in 1978. She was an Educator at Miami East Schools for 33 years. She was a member of the Union Baptist Church where she taught Junior Church and played in Handbell Choir. She enjoyed Hallmark movies, shopping, reading, word searches and loved watching sports.

Service will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday April 11, 2026 at Union Baptist Church with Pastor Nathan Justice officiating. Family and friends may call from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM prior to the service at the church. Private interment at Miami Memorial Park in Covington, OH.
