Karen Jo Van Matre

Karen Jo Van Matre, age 90, formerly of Jay County, Indiana and a resident of Ohio since 1975, passed away on October 7, 2026 at Hospice of Miami County in Troy, Ohio. She was born on July 24, 1936 in Sturgis, Michigan to the late James Robert and Helen Louise (Hecht) Edgington.

She is survived by her three sons: Gregory Allen (Jennifer) Van Matre of Sidney, David Edward Van Matre of Troy and Brian Matthew (Julie) Van Matre of Indian Lake; three siblings: James Edgington of Falls Church, Virginia, Judith (Charlie) Guiter of Three Rivers, Michigan and Michael Edgington of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; two grandchildren: Emma (Josh) Reece and Carolyn (Kyle) Watson and two great grandchildren: Bridger and Rhodes Watson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her spouse, Philip Allen Van Matre, and sister, Roberta Harris.

Karen was a graduate of Poling High School in Jay County, Indiana. She was a lifelong homemaker and an avid Red’s baseball fan. Her primary interests in life were her sons and grandchildren.

A Family Graveside Service will take place at a later date in Gravel Hill Cemetery, Jay County, Indiana.
