Jean Barbara Gares

Jean Barbara Gares, age 79, of Troy, OH, passed away peacefully on January 30, 2026.  She was born on December 11, 1946, in Philadelphia, PA to the late Albert and Roberta Gares.

She is survived by her sister Carol E. (Gares) Magin; nephew Jonathan Magin of Troy, OH, niece Sharon (Joel) Misirian of Troy, OH, niece Susan (Kent) Blackford of Sidney, OH, and niece Jennifer (Jarid) Mayo of Fairborn, OH; eight great-nieces and nephews: Kaitlyn Misirian, Mackenzie Misirian, Landon Misirian, Carter Misirian, Keegan Blackford, Jax Blackford, Liam Blackford, and Arielle Blackford.

Jean graduated from Gordon College in Wenham, MA with a bachelor's degree in nursing. She served as a registered nurse at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Westchester in NY for 50 years before retiring and moving to Troy, Ohio to be closer to family. After moving to Ohio, she faithfully attended First Baptist Church in Troy. Jean also enjoyed spending time with family, doing puzzles with her sister Carol, reading books, doing word searches and helping others in various ways. She loved bringing special treats to family gatherings and would fill gift bags full of presents and goodies for each of her nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, February 6, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Troy with Pastor Dale Christian officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy.
