Jan M. Couchman, 77, of Troy, OH passed away on 04/11/2026. She was born to Iva & Earl Couchman in Bellefontaine, OH. She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings Bill, Claurys, Jean, Dale and nephew Billy Dean. She is survived by her brother Herb (Kaye), nieces Vicki, Lisa, Cassie, Amy (Greg), Melody, Becky (Todd), and Robin, Great Nieces Shannon, Jena, and Brooke and Great Nephews Lane, Xander, Xavier and Matthew. She is also survived by numerous close friends. Jan was a graduate of Graham High School in 1966, Sinclair Community College in 1987, and Antioch College in Yellow Springs, OH in 2001.
She worked at Hobart Bros for 10 years, then for what is now US Bank in various positions, then for a lawyer in Sidney for 8 months and finally at Piqua Concrete for 22 years until her retirement in 2015.
Jan had volunteered with PFLAG Dayton for 22 years in various positions, with 8 of those years as President. She received various awards from several organizations in recognition for all her hard work for the LGBTQIA+ community.
She was a lifelong fan of Mickey Mouse and all things Disney. She was a hot air balloon enthusiast, running the Hot Air Balloon event at the Troy Strawberry Festival, also went to Alburquerque, NM for the International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta, she also volunteered at the US Regional Hot Air Balloon competition in Middletown, OH.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Baird Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:00 AM on Saturday at Baird Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a few of her favorite charities – Have A Gay Day in Dayton, OH, The Rubi Girls in Dayton, OH and St. Jude’s Hospital in Memphis, TN.
