Hazel Virginia Eckl

Hazel Virginia Eckl, age 83, of Troy, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Ohio’s Hospice of Miami County Inpatient Unit in Troy. She was born on April 27, 1943, to the late Paul Wesley and Aora (Davis) Cline of Mt. Sterling, KY.

Hazel is survived by her husband, they were together 51 years: Arthur C. Eckl III; two children: Chuck (Tricia Danis) Schall, Jr. of Spring, TX, and Scott (Shanna) Schall of Spring, TX; step-son: Ted Walter of Lebanon, OH; one brother: James Cline of Mt. Sterling, KY; one sister: Linda Welch of Lexington, KY; daughter-in-law: Tami Walter of Lebanon, OH; and four grandchildren: Allie (Taylor Stewart) Schall of Beavercreek, OH, Austin (Rachel) Schall of Knoxville, TN, Kacin Jordan of Spring, TX., and Chase Walter of Lebanon, OH. In addition to her parents, Hazel was preceded in death by siblings: Polly (James) Combs, Shirley (Elsie) Cline, John (Margaret) Cline, William (Debbie) Cline and Allen “Bowser” (Ella) Davis; sister-in-law: Alta Cline; and brother-in-law: Russel Welch.

Hazel attended Victory Church. She enjoyed reading books, TV shows and walking downtown with food as a final destination. Hazel also loved spending time with her family. She retired in 2006 from Verizon Corp. where she was a draftsperson for 34 years. In 1976, Hazel was the first woman ground worker to work outdoors on the construction line crew in GTE history.

Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Baird Funeral Home in Troy. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Family will receive friends from 12:00-2:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
