A faithful heart, a loving mother and a beautiful soul—her light will never be forgotten.

Edith Marie Lavy Murphy, age 92, of Troy, OH passed away in Atlanta, GA on September 30, 2026.

Edie is survived by her two daughters, son-in-law, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren: Kimberly Murphy Hurley and Will Hurley of Dunwoody, GA; Kellie Murphy Borden of Mason, OH; Vander Hurley; Joseph & Courtney Borden Daniel & Marsha Borden, and her four great grandchildren: River, Ava, Ivy and Stella. She is also survived by her one sister and brother-in-law: Eileen and John Henderson of Cumming, GA and two brothers and a sister-in-law: Everett Lavy of Troy and Robert and Sharon Lavy of Covington and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edie was born in Covington, OH to the late Ervin and Estella (Haas) Lavy. Edie married Ferdie Murphy, Jr. on September 5, 1959 and he preceded her in death after 56 years of marriage on April 5, 2015. Edie was preceded in death by one brother: Paul David Lavy, one sister: Evelyn Shellabarger and brother-in-law: Stanley Shellabarger.

Edie was a graduate of Newton High School in 1951 and the Dayton School of Nursing as well as additional studies in nursing and real estate.

Edie was a member of the First United Church of Christ in Troy. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Chapter No. 256; Friends of Hayner; Troy Christian Women’s Association and the Miami County Republican Women’s Association.

Edie was formerly employed as a nurse with many longtime area medical doctors and Dettmer Hospital in Troy. She served as a local realtor and real estate broker for over 40 years.

Visitation will be held from 11:00am-1:00pm on October 10, 2026 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH with service to follow at 1:00pm with Rev. Lauren Allen officiating. Interment will take place in Miami Memorial Park, Covington, OH. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dementia Society of America/dementia-donations
