David E. Palmer, age 76, of McCordsville, Indiana, passed away on Monday evening, March 2, 2026 at Castleton Healthcare Center, Indianapolis, Indiana. He was born on January 28, 1950 in Lima, Ohio, to the late George H. and Betty M. (McClurg) Palmer.
Mr. Palmer is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Boehrer) Palmer; son and daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Brenda Palmer of Fishers, Indiana; daughter, Sandy Palmer of Portage, Indiana; five grandchildren: Austin Hartrunft of Troy, Ohio, Molly Palmer of Raleigh, North Carolina, TJ Palmer of McCordsville, Indiana, Ava Palmer of Fishers, Indiana, and Ian Palmer of Fishers, Indiana.
In addition to his wife, children and grandchildren, he was survived by two sisters: Susan and Gary Weaks (brother-in-law) of Tipp City, Ohio, and Jane Snell of Troy, Ohio.
He was a graduate of Troy High School, Troy, Ohio, and a US Air Force veteran having served as an aircraft mechanic stationed at McChord AFB in Tacoma, Washington from 1968-1972.
Following his honorable discharge from the Air Force, he worked at Hobart Brothers in Troy Ohio for a short time before relocating to Portage, Indiana in 1982. From 1985 to 1996 he owned and operated Dave’s Auto Parts. David and Barbara then moved back to Troy, Ohio where he owned and operated two additional businesses: Trader Dave’s resale and consignment store and Trojan Wrought Iron Creations. His passion for metal art was best displayed through a commissioned sculpture exhibit, Dayton’s Big Heart, in the Dayton Mall, which still stands today.
David is best remembered for his deep love of family, obsession with his dogs, serving the community at the New Path Food Pantry, building and racing old chevy hot rods, and his staunch patriotic beliefs.
Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 23, 2026 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio, with the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard at the graveside. Friends may call from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Monday prior to the service at Baird Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the New Path Food Pantry 7695 South County Road 25A, Tipp City, Ohio 45371.
