Bruce A. Ruese, age 73, of Troy, passed away on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, at Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy. He was born on December 7, 1952, in Sidney, to the late Roger Ruese and Barbara (Thompson) McDermit.
Bruce is survived by his wife of 41 years: Donna (Slaybaugh) Ruese; brother-in-law: David Slaybaugh; sister-in-law: Debra Gomez; aunt: Shirley Stephenson; beloved nieces and nephews: Matthew Gomez, Jessica (Alex) Gall, Richard Slaybaugh and Heather (Chris) Kelly; great nieces and nephews: Liam Gomez, Adrian Gomez, Jaden Hopkins, Kylie Hopkins, Cullen Gall, Ava Gall, Olivia Gall, Allison Slaybaugh, Quentin Kelly, Mea Mae Kelly and Baker Kelly; and numerous cousins and other beloved family members. In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by nieces: Aurora Hopkins and Amelia Mae Gall.
Bruce was a member of Casstown United Methodist Church. He was a 1971 graduate of Sidney High School. Bruce was a member of Sidney High School All Boys Band and Sidney High School Alumni Band. He was also on the Miami County Abuse Center Board, Temperance Lodge 73 F&AM in Sidney, and a member of Scottish Rite. Bruce retired from Ohio State Highway Patrol where he served at Van Wert Post, Piqua Post and in Troy. After retiring, he taught drivers education for AAA in Sidney. Bruce enjoyed the Ohio State Patrol retirement breakfast and the Sidney Class of 1971 reunions and luncheons. He also loved to travel. Bruce was an avid fan of Ohio State and Cincinnati Bengals.
Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 12,2026, at Baird Funeral Home with Pastor Joe LeMaster officiating. Burial will follow in Fletcher Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM- 1:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home. The family requests that attendees wear Ohio State or Bengals colors if possible.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Casstown United Methodist Church or Bethany Center in Piqua. Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
