Shirley B. Mott, age 91, of Troy, OH passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at the Caldwell House in Troy, OH. Shirley was born on April 24, 1927 in Hartford, CT to the late Harry S. and Mary (Winar) Blackington. Her mother, Mary, was an immigrant from the Ukraine. Shirley is now reunited with her beloved late husband, Leland L. Mott, who preceded her in death on April 6, 1998.
Shirley, the proud matriarch of a large and tightly knit family, had five children. Her oldest son and his wife, Garry and Joanne Mott, live in Orlando, FL. Her second son and his wife, Glenn and Esther Mott, live in Orrville, OH .Her second daughter Jeannine Mott lives in Tacoma, WA with her dear friend Melanie Hermanson. Her youngest daughter and her husband, Sharon and Rick Cain, live in Beavercreek, OH. Her oldest daughter, Deborah Watren, preceded her in death and was survived by Ed Watren , who lives in Cincinnati, OH . Shirley had twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Paula Blackington of Tennessee . When asked who her favorite grandchild was, she was known to respond, "Whichever one is with me at the time."
Shirley was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Troy and was active with the United Methodist Women. She was a member of the PERS Credit Union Board and the Alturian Club. Many of Shirley ’s fondest memories were from her time working for the Troy-Miami County Public Library where she served as head of technical services. She also cherished her time spent supporting the HAM radio club booth at Troy's annual Strawberry Festival. In her later years, Shirley found joy and purpose in volunteering for FISH through the church, helping people secure the resources they needed . She is remembered for her loyal friendship and sharp wit.
A service in memory of Shirley will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Troy, OH. Interment will take place in Casstown Cemetery in Casstown, OH. The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM on Thursday at the church.
