JOHN PETER HARRINGTON

John Peter “Jack” Harrington, age 91, formerly of Ft. Myers, FL and more recently of Tipp City, OH passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at the Randall Residence in Tipp City.  Jack was born on June 21, 1925 in Detroit, MI to the late John Peter and Norah (Cronin) Harrington.  Jack was married to wife: Margaret Mary (Kobe) Harrington and she preceded him in death on September 29, 2016.

Jack is survived by his children:  Kathleen (Joseph) Lehrter of Troy, OH and Colleen (Kevin) Fitzpatrick of West Bloomfield, MI; sister: Irene Harrington of Waterford, MI and brother: Most Rev. Bernard Harrington of Rochester, MN; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  In addition to his wife and parents, Jack was preceded in death by his brother: Timothy and seven infant children.

Jack was a graduate of University of Detroit High School where he was a member of the baseball and basketball teams.  He graduated with a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Detroit where he played varsity baseball. 

He served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII as a Navigator on the B24.  Jack was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy; Lions Club; Pontiac, MI Chamber of Commerce; St. Vincent de Paul of Dearborn Heights, MI and St. Isabel Catholic Church in Sanibel Island, FL.  Jack was an avid golfer and achieved five holes in one.  He was a store manager with Sears Roebuck and Company. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy, OH with the Most Rev. Bishop Bernard Harrington officiating.  Veterans honor guard services will take place following the mass.  Memorial contributions may be made to St. Columbkille Catholic Thrift Shop ministry, 15271 McGregor Blvd, Ft. Myers, FL 33908.
