Ernest S. Gary, age 82, of New Carlisle, OH passed away on Monday, January 10, 2017 at Springmeade Healthcare Center, Tipp City, OH. under the care of Hospice.   Ernie was born on October 23, 1934 in Birmingham, AL to Hilda and Everett Gary.

Ernie is survived by his wife of 43 years:  Diane (Huffman) Gary; his children: Bamy Lynn Emerson, Deanna Lee Byron and Tim Alan Gary all of Columbus; two grandchildren; his sister:  Betty Hornbuckle of Remlap, AL; brother-in-law: Harold Reid of Alabaster, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and sister: Sarah Jane Reid.

Ernie was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati  with a degree in Vocational Education.   He was employed in vocational education for a total of 32 years.  He served at Southwestern City Schools, Grove City, OH from 1963-1965; Montgomery County Joint Vocational School from 1966-1978 and Clark County Joint Vocational School from 1979-1994.  He enjoyed working with the drafting students and serving as an advisor with the Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA)/Skills USA.  He was recognized by the Skills USA National Conference for 48 years of service with the organization.

Ernie’s other passion in life was golf.  He was an avid golfer and loved working at the Muirfield Memorial Golf Tournament in Dublin, OH.  He served as a marshal on the twelfth hole for 21 years.

Ernie donated his body to the Boonshoft College of Medicine at Wright State University.  A Memorial Service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, January 21 at the First United Methodist Church, 110 West Franklin Street, Troy, OH with the Rev. Fr. Clayton Huffman and Rev. David Leckrone co-officiating.  The family will greet friends following the service at the First Place Christian Center.  Memorial contributions may be made in Ernie’s name to First United Methodist Church, 110 West Franklin Street, Troy, OH 45373.
