William F. "Bill" Lohrer Obituary

William F. (Bill) Lohrer, age 84, of Mint Hill, NC (formerly of Troy, OH) passed away into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior on February 19, 2024.  He was born on November 21,1939 in Cincinnati to Clifford and Loretta Lohrer. 

He was a 1957 graduate of Colerain High School (Cincinnati) where he was the sports editor of the school newspaper, participated in school plays, and was a pitcher on the varsity baseball team.  Bill was awarded alumnus of the year in 2014.  Bill was a proud 1961 graduate of Ohio University, Athens, OH where he received a B.S. in Journalism.  He was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.  A very special place, Bill worked in public relations and met the love of his life, Carla, at Ohio University following graduation.  Bill went on to a long career in journalism, including news reporting, public relations, and 21 years as manager of advertising at Hobart Corporation in Troy.  He served his country in the Naval Reserves. 

Bill’s communication expertise served him well throughout his life.  He was a consummate servant leader for both the City of Troy and Troy City Schools during his nearly 42 years as a Trojan.  Bill served on Troy City Council for 14 years, 10 of them as Council President.  He was the inaugural President of the Cookson Elementary School PTO, former President of the Troy Music Parents Association, former President of the Troy Football Parents Association, and former Executive Director of the Future Begins Today, a city-wide academic support and last dollar grant program. He is a past President of the Troy Kiwanis, and he served on the Board of Directors of the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce. 

Bill was a member of the Troy Masonic Lodge for more than 50 years and served as past President of the Miami County Shrine Club Antioch Temple. 

Together with his wife, Carla, Bill was awarded the Troy Area Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Citizen Award in 2008. The Trojan All-Sports Club dedicated the 2005-2006 All Sports Program to him for his contributions and cooperative spirit to both the Troy City Schools and the City of Troy.  Bill served on numerous committees for the Troy Strawberry Festival and is a past Grand Marshall of the Troy Strawberry Festival Parade.  

Bill was a long-time member and church leader at First United Methodist Church, Troy, OH, and enjoyed nearly 10 years as a member of Philadelphia Presbyterian Church in Mint Hill, NC where he served as a Deacon, and member of the church choir.  

Bill is survived by his pride and joy, his family:  His loving wife of nearly 62 years, Carla (nee Wilson) of Mint Hill, NC; daughter, Shari (Dale) Cartwright of Medina, OH; son, Michael (Ginger) of Mint Hill, NC; grandchildren, Sarah Lesiak of Centerville, OH, Trey Lesiak of Salado, TX, Jackson Lohrer and Wilson Lohrer of Mint Hill, Janele Kauffman (and children Giuliana and James) of Parma, OH, Samuel (Samantha) Cartwright of Stow, OH, Lauren Price and Austin Price of Mint Hill; sister-in-law, Coleen Ohlinger of Zanesville, OH; a niece and three nephews and their families; and a collection of life-long friends.  Bill is preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Russel and Hazel Wilson; his sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Pat Wiehe; and brother-in-law, Terry Ohlinger.  

The family will receive visitors on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 3-6 p.m. with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. at Baird Funeral Home, 555 N. Market Street, Troy, OH.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church, 110 W. Franklin St., Troy, OH. The Rev. Dr. James Wilson presiding. Burial at Riverside Cemetery to take place at a later date.  Baird Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
