Virgil "Junior" Mitchell

Virgil “Junior” Mitchell, age 86, of Christiansburg, OH, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Hospice of Dayton.  He was born May 20, 1937 in Piqua, OH to the late Virgil and Ruth (Landis) Mitchell. 

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Tony (Melissa) Mitchell of Christiansburg, Philip Allan (Shannon) Mitchell of Trotwood and Gloria Mitchell of DeGraff; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; five great- great-grandchildren; and sister Joanne Mote.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years: Ruth “Carolyn” (Allen) Mitchell; his son: Ronald Mitchell of DeGraff and brothers: Donald Mitchell, Dick Thompson, Jack Mitchell and Ed Sizemore.

Junior was a graduate of Bradford High School and served his country in the US Army.  He was a member of the Full Gospel Church in Christiansburg and volunteered with the Christiansburg Fire Department for 55 years.  He was formerly employed with Champion Paper in Piqua and retired as a security guard with ITW.  He enjoyed fishing and car racing.

Services to be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, October 16, 2023 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy, OH.  Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10:00 – 11:00 AM.  Graveside services to be conducted at Casstown Cemetery.
