Sue Ann (Barger) Friend

Sue Ann (Barger) Friend, age 89, of Sidney; formerly of Troy passed away Friday, April 16, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital. She was born on December 15,1931 in Champaign Co. to the late Walter D. and Helen (McBeth) Barger. 

Sue is survived by; sons and daughter-in-law: Steven H. Friend and D. Douglas (Rebecca) Friend, both of Troy and Brian E. Friend of Sidney; grandsons: Derrick and Korry; and niece: Diane Baughman.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Harold “Hal” Friend; brother: Alan Barger; daughter-in-law: Carol (Cool) Friend; nephew: David Barger; and sister-in-law: LaDonna Barger. 

Sue was a formerly active member and volunteer at First United Church of Christ and St. John’s Church of Christ in Troy.  She loved volunteering.  Sue was a Cub Scout den mother, Sunday school teacher and school parent volunteer.  She was also a volunteer for several years at the gift shops of Upper Valley Medical Center in Troy and Ohio Living Dorothy Love in Sidney.  Sue worked at W. B. Marvin’s in Urbana, headquarters at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Aeroproducts, GMC in Vandalia, JC Penney’s in Troy and was a receptionist for Dr. Stanley C. Vorpe and son, Dr. D. Douglas Friend before retiring after 41 years. 

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family with interment at Riverside Cemetery in Troy.
