Steven Shively Obituary

Steven Eugene Shively, 69, of Troy, passed away on March 4, 2021.  He was born on May 9, 1951, to the late Fredrick and Mary (Dysinger) Shively.  He married Barbara L. McVeigh on June 13, 1976, and she survives.

Other survivors include children Sarah (Shane) Simon, Esther Shively and Jared (Katie) Shively; grandchildren Sierra and Sebastian Simon, and Madison and Alaina Shively; siblings Randie (Jeanne) Shively, Tim (Karen) Shively, Jeff (Deb) Shively, Linda (Scott) Good, Scott (Debbie) Shively and Jim (Mel) Shively; sister-in-law Shirley McVeigh and brother-in-law Jim (Gay) McVeigh and many other extended family members.  In addition to his parents, Steve was preceded in death by his son Jason Shively, in-laws Robert and Dorothy McVeigh, and very special grandparents Everett and Faith Shively.

Steve graduated from Covington High School and received his bachelor’s degree and Master of Arts in Teaching from Miami University.  He was a beloved teacher of history at Bethel High School for 30 years and Troy Christian for 8 years.  After retiring from teaching, he enjoyed volunteering at the National Museum of the United States Air Force and the Miami Valley Veteran’s Museum.  Steve also served in various positions with Boy Scout Troop 1033 for many years.  He loved serving his Lord by teaching His word, sharing with others and spending many hours with his church family.  The highlight of his year was vacationing in Grand Marais, Michigan, with his family.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren, reading and collecting books and just talking and learning from others.

A celebration of Steve’s life will be at 7PM on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Troy Christian High School.
