Roberta Ann Thompson

Roberta Ann Thompson passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 21, 2023. She was born on February 9, 1956 in Detroit, MI to the late Richmond Ward and Gladys Nelma (Kemppainen) Thompson. 

Surviving family members that will forever miss her: son, Charles “Chuck" Thompson; daughter, Gladys (Jay) Fisher of MI; stepchildren, Cheryl Derry and Michael Derry; sisters, Sharon Stidham, Shawnee (Bruce) Huffman, Twiggy (Matt) Parrish; brothers, Rich (Kathy) Thompson, all of Troy, Ohio; and brother, Michael (Teresa) Thompson of Walled Lake, Michigan. Grandchildren Matthew Fisher (Chloe), Branden (Mckayla) Fisher, Jason Fisher, Dylan Fisher, of MI, Addison Richardson-Thompson, of OH; extended grandkids, Stephanie, Chad, and Chris, all of MI; great grandchildren: RaeLynn Fisher of MI and two more on the way; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Roberta was preceded in death by her lifelong partner: Charles Derry; and brothers: Doug Thompson, Terry Thompson, and Leslie Thompson.

Roberta served as a teacher’s aide and food service worker at Detroit Public Schools for many years. Before retiring and moving to Ohio, she was a file clerk for one of the largest law firms in Detroit.

Roberta was a loving mother, sister, grandma and great grandma. Roberta loved to spend her time with her family, playing Bingo and watching Detroit Lions and Michigan Football and WWE. Her family members could tell you funny stories and memories about her all day long. She was quirky but that is what made her “Grandma Berta”. She was the kindest soul; she would give anyone her last dollar even if it meant she was left with nothing. She will forever be missed and always in our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, August 28, 2023 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with Pastor Chris Barhorst officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Visitation will be held from 11AM-1 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
