Richard (Dick) Calvert went home to the Lord peacefully on Sunday, January 9, 2022, weeks shy of his 89th birthday. He died at his home in Troy, OH as his family visited. Richard was born in Troy on January 25th, 1933, to Russell and Florence (Smith) Calvert.
Richard enjoyed football, basketball and track, and graduated from Troy High School in 1953. He worked at the Gummed Products and Hobart Corporation in Troy before serving 2 years in the Army in Europe. Upon his return from duty, he married his High School sweetheart, Rosalie, in 1956 at St. John’s Church in Troy. Richard went on to work a total of 39 years at Hobart/KitchenAid until his retirement in 1992.
Richard was a member of St. John’s Church, a member and Trustee of First Baptist Church in Troy, then followed his son, Paul, as he ministered at several area churches. Richard volunteered at UVMC for 15 years and served via Troy’s soup kitchen even longer. He loved the outdoors, bike rides, gardening and woodworking, but first and foremost, God, his bride and family.
Richard was a very kind, gentle and loving man who showed his heartfelt care for others, as well as his great sense of humor, up to his last day. He didn’t know a stranger, striking up a friendly conversation and finding common ground within a few minutes of meeting someone. His was a tremendous example of how to live life in all phases. He will be greatly missed.
Richard is survived by his children Anne Mann of Tremont City, OH, Jeff (Alida) Calvert of Torrance, CA, Susan Calvert of Troy, and Paul (Shelly) Calvert of Troy.
