Mildred Clay Obituary

Mildred S. Clay, age 89, of Troy Ohio passed away on July 20, 2020 at Miami Valley Hospital.  She was born on April 25, 1931 in Bruin, KY, to the late Dennis and Lottie (Evans) Bowling.  Mildred married James E. Clay of Denton, KY on January 5th, 1952, and moved to California while Jim was in the service.  After Jim was discharged from the service, they moved to Ohio and have resided in Ohio ever since.

Mildred is survived by her daughters and son-in-law:  Pamela Martens of Magnolia, TX, and Shirley and Asiddeg Al-Jarani of Troy; brother and sister-in-law:  David and Joyce Bowling of Fairborn; and grandchildren:  Jessica Martens, Bahaadin, Yusef, Malik, Adam, and Fatima Al-Jarani.  In addition to her parents, Mildred was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years: James E. Clay; son: Timothy V. Clay; son-in-law: Gary Martens; siblings: Homer Bowling, Wayne Bowling, Leroy Bowling, Vernon Bowling, Ardith Kiser, Edith Martins, and Nola Flannery.

Mildred graduated from Prichard High school in 1950.  She began working at Grizzell's grocery after high school and ran the meat department until she married.  Mildred also worked at Liberal Meat Market, Big Star, and Marsh Supermarkets.  She was the Deli manager at the Troy Marsh Supermarket for 19 years and won many awards for excellence.   She was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, the Christian Women’s Group, and the Red Hat Club.

Mildred loved sewing, quilting, and crocheting.  She enjoyed collecting dolls and keeping physically fit.  She and her husband loved traveling around the country, including trips to the Dominican Republic and a Hawaiian cruise to celebrate their retirement.  She was a faithful Christian who loved God and her family.  She was loved by her grandchildren more than words can express and was a wonderful grandmother.  She made sure she was there for the birth of all her grandchildren and spoiled them endlessly. Her grandchildren have fond memories of making cookies with her and her patience and playfulness.  She was a social butterfly and touched the lives of many.

The family will receive friends from 12-2 pm on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at Baird Funeral Home.  A private service for family and close friends will be held with interment at the Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, OH.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Social Services, 100 S. Main Street, Suite 102, Sidney, OH 45365.  Friends may express condolences to the family through www.bairdfunderalhome.com.
