Mark Douglas Smith

Mark Douglas Smith, age 67, of Dayton, OH, formerly of Troy, OH, passed away on August 28, 2023 at his residence. He was born on July 28, 1956 in Troy, OH to the late Joseph Smith Jr. and Miriam K. (Petry) (Smith) Tucker. He is survived by his sons: Justin A. (Nicole) Smith of St. Paris, OH, Benjamin F. (Courtenay) Smith of Bradenton, FL, and Jacob N. (Alayna) Smith of Dayton, OH; daughter: Rachel (Smith) (Russell) Matthes of Sarasota, FL; sister: Kathy (Smith) Swearingin of Miamisburg, OH; grandchildren: Austin Smith, Kaden Maxwell, Tristan Maxwell, Nevin Smith, Isla Smith, Hudson Smith, Ezra Smith, and Hiro Smith; many nephews; and a niece. In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by his stepfather: Eddie Tucker; brother: Ty Tucker; and sister and brother-in-law: Deborah (Smith) (Jim) Brown.

Mark was a graduate of Troy High School and attended Miami University. He was retired from a long career in sales, and he was most proud of his achievements in the early telecommunications business.  He was very athletic in his younger years and excelled in baseball, track, football, and golf. He was a talented artist, and this has been continued by his daughter, Rachel, and granddaughter, Isla. Mark was a lifelong sports enthusiast, a love he shared with his three sons, and a huge fan of the Minnesota Vikings and The Ohio State University Buckeyes. Mark often spoke of the love of his children, grandchildren, and many lifelong friends. His exceptional wit and ability to tell a story will be remembered by all who knew him.

A reception will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023, 12:00-3:00 pm. at Smiths’ Boathouse Restaurant, 439 N. Elm St., Troy, OH 45373.
