Larry Lynn Lavender, age 76, of Troy passed away on September 3, 2023 at his residence. He was born on March 12, 1947 in Troy to the late Ralph and Gladys Mae (Strome) Lavender.
Larry is survived by sons: Steven (Cheri) Lavender of Troy, Ronald (Shelly) Lavender of Greenville and Chad (Lisa) Lavender of Elizabethtown, KY; grandchildren: Kaila Marie, Halie Lynn, Madelynn, Briana, Cooper, Kinley, Remington, Hawk and Wren Lavender; great grandchildren: Paisley Lynn, Sloane, Waylen David.
Larry was a 1965 graduate of Miami East High school and inductee of the Hall of Fame, 1967 graduate of Miami Jacobs College, earned his tax accounting certificate at Sinclair Community College and earned his BS from Cedarville University with an accounting degree. He later began his career as a Tax Specialist at Hobart Corporation in Troy. During his 35 years at Hobart, Larry held a number of management positions in tax and payroll.
Larry held several board memberships including the Miami East Operating Levey Treasurer and served as township fiscal officer in his community of Elizabeth Township for over 30 years. He was an entrepreneur as past owner of the Classique Beauty Salon in Troy. Larry also served the community as an Auctioneer for over 57 years having been voted Best Auctioneer by Readers’ Choice Awards over the past 15 years. He was also a Personal Property Appraiser with the Certified Appraisers Guild of America.
Larry was a member of McKendree Methodist Church. He proudly served his country as a member of the US Army. Larry was a life member Vandalia AMVets Post 99, where he served as fiscal officer, VFW Post 4615, Tipp City, SABEC Memorial VFW Post 9582, Vandalia, Tipp City Eagles Aerie 2201 and American Legion Post 586, Tipp City.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 16, 2023 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, OH with Pastor Alan Cain officiating. Interment will follow in Casstown Cemetery with military honors by the Veterans Memorial Honor Guard of Troy. The family will receive friends from 4:00–8:00 PM, Friday, September 15, 2023 and at 1:00 PM prior to service on Saturday, September 16, 2023 at Baird Funeral Home.
