Joan Doyle McDonald Obituary

Joan Doyle McDonald, age 81, of Troy, passed away on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at her residence.  She was born in Columbus, Ohio on September 24, 1939 to the late John Doyle and Helen (Mair) Doyle Sacher.

Joan always had an adventurous spirit that contributed to a love for travel throughout her life. Before graduating from The Ohio State University in 1961, Joan spent a semester studying in Mexico, which resulted in a long-term love of Mexican culture and food. Early in her career she was able to pursue her love of travel and adventure as an international flight attendant for TWA. She enjoyed traveling with her husband and family into her later life. Her love of culture and art informed her travels, and she shared this love with her grandchildren taking them to Biltmore Estate, Chicago, and the Dayton Art Museum.

Joan was also longtime member of the Troy Country Club.  She loved tennis and was an accomplished golfer, scoring a hole in one on two separate occasions. She had an easy-going down the center of the fairway style that was deceptively effective.

Joan is survived by her husband of 56 years: Mike McDonald; sons: Patrick (Kelley) McDonald of Troy and Dennis (Christina Vellucci) McDonald of Charlotte, NC, and her grandchildren, Maxwell, Riley, Andreas, Adelaide Joan, Declan and Lachlan Doyle. They were perhaps one of her greatest joys, and she embraced the role of grandmother, showering them with love and treats from her favorite recipes to thoughtful gifts that both educated and delighted them.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, P. O. Box 502, Troy, OH 45373.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
