Janet M. Walpole

TROY — Janet Walpole, 96, of Troy, passed peacefully away November 18, 2022, in The Plains, Ohio.

Born March 9, 1926, in Troy, she was the daughter of the late Carl and Esther Allspach Kroger. She was a homemaker and retired registered nurse.

Janet was a 1944 graduate of Troy High School and a graduated from Middletown School of Nursing. She also attended Miami University. She was a lifelong member of the St. Johns United Church of Christ and was active in the larger church for many years.  She enjoyed many years of being a grandmother and great grandmother and the joy they brought her.

Janet married Clifford B. Walpole, her husband of 29 years, on October 8, 1951, in Troy, Ohio, and he preceded her in death on July 27, 1981.

Janet is survived by two sons, Michael (Judy Norris) Walpole of Dayton, Ohio, Kent Walpole of Troy, Ohio and a daughter Sara (Gary Barnhouse) Walpole of Albany, Ohio; grandchildren: Bethany Norris, Danny Walpole, Erin Walpole, Jessica (Nick) Groff, Kent Walpole Jr., Dillon (Mallory Valentour) Barnhouse, and Kyle (McKenzie) Barnhouse;  four great-grandchildren: Jacob Groff, Gabriel Groff, Jebediah Groff, and Adrienne Barnhouse; a sister, Esther Lamka of Troy, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Janet, was preceded in death by four sisters: Cecilia Whitmer, Charlotte Biles, Marjorie Kuhns, and Rosalie Calvert, and two brothers: Carl “Lud” Kroger and Lawrence Kroger.

Special thank you to her church family, caregiver Zoe, the staff at The Lindley Inn, and Athens OH Hospice for their care through Janet’s decline.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Wednesday November 23, 2022 at St. Johns United Church of Christ, 130 S. Walnut St., Troy, OH with the Rev. Don Crist officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. Friends may call at the church beginning at 11:00AM until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Janet’s memory to St. John’s United Church of Christ or a Hospice of your choosing.
