Francis “Anne” Poertner, lovingly known as Mom, Nana, Great Nana, and Miss Annie passed away on October 5, 2023, at the age of 93 years old. Anne was born on December 23, 1929, in Williamsburg, Kentucky to parents Ancil and Francis (Fritts) West. She was preceded in death by her father, Ancil West, Mother Francis West, and her beloved husband Earl Edward Poertner, Jr.
Survivors include daughters Sandra (Donald) Hartley, Linda (Donavon) Hofacker, grandchildren Daniel (Allyson) Hartley, Laura Hartley, Emily (Ray) Laughman, Stacy (Andrew) Wood, Tricia (Kyle Eberlein) Hofacker, and great grandchildren Margaret Hartley, Benjamin Hartley, Ethan Hartley, Brian Laughman and Gabriel Laughman.
Anne moved with her mother to Cincinnati, Ohio in her teens and attended Woodward High School, class of 1949. She met the love of her life Earl Poertner and after dating and Earl’s service in the Korean War they married and lived throughout Ohio and Indiana, settling in Huber Heights, Ohio in 1965. Anne utilized her secretarial skills at Christ Hospital, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Ponderosa Corporate Office and retired from Manfredi Motor Transport/Distech as office manager in 2007.
As a resident of Danbury Senior Living of Huber Heights since 2018, Anne was lovingly recognized as a “movie star” as she had the pleasure of being featured in several of their commercials for the facility. She enjoyed music, reading, gardening, playing games and visiting with family and friends.
Special thanks to the caring nurses, resident companions at Danbury, as well as the team from DayCity Hospice for their care and guidance.
Service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Baird Funeral Home in Troy. Burial will follow in Royal Oak Memorial Garden in Brookville. Family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Monday at the funeral home.
