Edward Michael “Mike” Benkert, age 79, formerly of Piqua and more recently of Troy, passed away on October 10. He was born on January 11, 1942 in Piqua, OH to the late Edward George and Mary (Marden) Benkert.
He is survived by his children: Aaron Michael (Amy) Benkert of Indianapolis, IN; Edward George (Shelly) Benkert of Kwajalein Island; Matthew Jay Benkert of Washington DC and Heidi (Tyler Weikert) Benkert of Troy; grandchildren: Evan, Abigail and Audrey; siblings: Joanne (Tim) Townsend of Vandalia; George (Mary Kay) Benkert of Hot Springs, AR; Dan (Donna) Benkert of Largo, FL and Julia Benkert (Louie Kindell, decd.) of Piqua and extended family and friends.
Mike was a graduate of Piqua Catholic High School and Wright State University. He held several positions at Hobart Corporation and Shook Construction. He served as an officer in the Ohio National Guard. He was a former president of the Troy High School Wrestling Parents Association, a substitute teacher, member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Troy and the Hemlock Sportsman Club of Piqua. He enjoyed playing and watching sports, hunting, trap shooting, fishing and golfing.
A Mass will be held at 11AM on November 5, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery in Piqua. The family will receive friends from 4-7PM on November 4, 2021 at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy.
