Arlene Zimmerman, age 76, of Casstown, OH passed away on October 3, 2021 at Upper Valley Medical Center. She was born on October 24, 1944 in Casstown to the late Melvin and Ellen (Fisher) Sutherly. She lived her entire life on the same road, with her birthplace and her marriage years home being within a half mile of each other.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years: Robert K. “Bob” Zimmerman; children: Rob (Angie) Zimmerman of Atlanta, GA and Josh (Dani) Zimmerman of Colona, IL; grandchildren: Brianna “Bri”, Kirsten, and Rebekah “Bekah” Zimmerman; and nephew: Bruce Landis. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her only sister and brother-in-law: Marilyn and Don Landis.
Arlene was a 1962 graduate of Miami East High School. She had a life long passion for baking and created a career as a professional wedding cake decorator, taught cake decorating and candy making classes, and competed nationally. She turned that passion into a retail business when she started Kitchen Creations in Casstown, successfully operating it for many years.
Arlene was a 51-year member of the First Baptist Church of Troy and was very active in her Life Group and Women’s Missions at the church. Over those years, she was involved in numerous activities in the church, from the nursery, to teaching Sunday School classes, church camps, sewing club, and was actively involved in support services helping her fellow church family members.
Arlene and Bob enjoyed wintering in Florida, visiting their grandchildren, spending time visiting & traveling with their many friends and being active members in their church. She also loved her flowers, having spent many hours planting and creating planters around their Ohio and Florida homes each year.
Services will take place on Monday, October 11, 2021 at 11AM at the First Baptist Church of Troy with Pastor Doug Magin officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 10, 2021 from 2-6PM at Baird Funeral Home. For those wishing to view the service remotely, First Baptist Church will be having it live at: www.
