William "Bill" M. Gillis, 88, of Troy, Ohio died on Monday, August 1, 2006 at the Upper Valley Medical Center, Troy, Ohio. He was born on August 27, 1917 in Troy, Ohio to the late Arthur W. and Olive M. Bayes Gillis. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Caroline L. Croner Gillis; daughter-in-law; Faye Gillis of St. Louis, MO; brother-in-law; Bill Croner, and his daughter, Barbara John Gibbons of Troy, Ohio, along with their children, David; Derek and Douglas, all of Troy; four grandchildren, Will Gillis of St. Louis, MO; Kevin Gillis of Columbia, MO; Mary Tippin of Columbia, IL and Brian Gillis of St. Louis, MO; eight great-grandchildren, Brittany Gillis; David Gillis; John Gillis; Paul Gillis; Andrew Gillis; Max Gillis; Emma Tippin; Molly Caroline Tippin; two step-grandchildren, Jenny Kuehnle of St. Louis, MO; Tim Burress of Japan; one step-great-grandchild, Theresa Kuehnle of St. Louis, Mo; also survived by a great niece and her husband, Nancy Norris and Carl H. Speck of Chardon, OH and their children, Cherise Simecek of Georgetown, KY; Carl N. Sandra Speck of Chardon, OH and Susan F.M. David Callahan of Chardon, OH; and great-great nieces and nephews, Courtney and Jessica Speck, Calvin, Luke and Shane Callahan. He is preceded in death by parents; one son, William M. Gillis II, in 2003 and tow sister, Almeda Brechtel and Frances Fowler. He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Troy; a 60 year member of Troy Lions Club; WACO Historical Society and a member of Piqua Antique Car Klub. He attended Troy City Schools. He was former Owner/Operator of Gillis Taxi Company and Gillis Moving Company. Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 4, 2006 at 11:30am at the St. John's United Church of Christ, Troy with Pastor Tony Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to service at the St. John's United Church of Christ.
