Obituary

William (Bill) D. Rich, of Troy, passed away peacefully, on January14th, 2026, reuniting with his beloved wife, Betty B. (Sensenbaugh) Rich, who preceded him in death in 2007. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose life was centered around faith, family, and community. He was born on March 5, 1932, in Richmond, IN.

Bill served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and sailed on the USS Kearsage, CVN-33. Bill married the love of his life, Betty B. Rich, on October 6, 1956. Together they settled in Dayton, where they raised their family and built a life rooted in hard work and love. The couple lived in Westbrook Village for many years before moving to Troy in 1996. Bill was a steady and supportive presence throughout their marriage, always focused on providing for and caring for his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty, his son Dennis as well as sisters Jean and Ted Hoskins; Emma Lee Christensen; Ida Mae Rich; and Patty & Marvin Magoto as well as other family members who welcomed him home.

Bill is survived by his children: Dennis (Deceased) and Bonnie Rich of Greenville, and their children Travis and Missy, Brandon and Samantha, Aaron and Lynsey, and Tess & Kelly Oswalt; and great-grandson Landon, Logan, Liam, Larkin, Elias and Isaiah; David and Rhonda Rich of Troy, and their children Eric and Rebecca and great grandchildren Reagan, Eleanor and Connor; Kyle; and Ryne and Megan; daughter, Stacy and Doug (Deceased) Niezgoda of Troy, and her children Robert Jr. and Angelica and great grandchildren Aleah, Gabe, Robert and Emma, and Kate; and Sara and Adam Yarborough and great grandchildren Alyx and Aerin; Mike Niezgoda and Sarah Niezgoda.

He will also be greatly missed by his extended family, including brother Robert Rich and wife Chris and their children Jason and Jamee, and granddaughter Taylor great-granddaughter Skylar; along with many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, cousins, and in-laws.

Bill was a member of the Troy Country Club, Troy VFW Post 5136, American Legion Post 43 and Korean War Veterans.  He graduated from Palestine High School and received his Associates Degree from Sinclair College in Engineering.  He worked as a Tool and Die maker for over 60 years.  Bill will be remembered for his quiet strength, dedication to his family, and the deep love he showed to all who knew him. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.

Family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, January 18, 2026, at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.  A private inurnment will be held at Riverside Cemetery Troy, Ohio.
