WALLACE E. HAMIEL
Wallace E. Hamiel (Wally), age 90, of Troy, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 29, 2016. He was born on August 10, 1926 in Dayton, OH to the late Robert and Evelyn (Hunt) Hamiel. He married Esther L. (Morrow) Hamiel in 1948 who preceded him in death in 2001.
Wallace is survived by his children, Barbara (Stephen) Hedges of Troy, Pamela (James) Kidder of New Carlisle, and William (Tamara) Hamiel of Troy; eight grandchildren, Thomas (Elizabeth) Egelhoff of Santa Fe, NM, Stephen (Suely) Egelhoff of Linden, MI, Chad Egelhoff of Englewood, OH, Scott (Jill) Egelhoff of St. Louis, MO, Amanda (Adam) Bennett of Tipp City, Jamie (Jeremiah) Long of Tipp City, Jeremy Kidder of the USMC. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by one son-in-law, Thomas Egelhoff and one grandson, Michael Egelhoff.
He is also survived by fourteen great grandchildren and five great, great grandchildren and special friend Martha Wintrow. Wally graduated from Northridge High School in Dayton. He was proud to serve his country and entered into the Army for WWII in late 1944. He was part of the 25th Division and shipped to the Philippines to prepare for the invasion of Japan. He was to be in the first wave of troops. However the war ended with the dropping of the A-Bomb. Wally continued to Japan for occupation duty from 1945 thru 1946. He worked as a mail clerk traveling the area by train and remembered the devastation for the rest of his life.
After the war, Wally returned to his lifelong occupation as a farmer at the home place of 202/Needmore area, before moving to the farm on Rudy Rd in Elizabeth Township in the spring of 1957. He spent the remainder of his life farming there. Wally was also a school bus driver for the Miami East School District from 1960 to his retirement in 1983 also spending 12 of those years working as a custodian for the Elizabeth School. Wally was also a member of the Cove Spring Church where he served in various positions. He also served many years on the Elizabeth Township Zoning Board.
Friends may call from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday, January 2, 2017 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy. Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Dayton Memorial Park and Cemetery, Dayton with Pastor Greg Morrow officiating.
