Virginia L. Surmacz Troy - Virginia Surmacz, 79, of Troy, Ohio, died Thursday, June 7th at the Koester Pavillion in Troy. Virginia was born on January 4, 1928 in Troy, Ohio to the late Theodore and Lela Brookhart. Virginia is survived by her husband, Ted and her daughter and son-in-law, Cie and Rob Cary of Sebastopol, California. Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband, Philip Compton in 1965. She graduated from Troy High School in 1945 and went on to work as a bookkeeper at several area car dealerships. Throughout her life, Virginia was known as a masterful knitter. Her daughter, friends and others will long treasure her works of art. She could be found, until her illness, bowling in two leagues, another activity she enjoyed. Virginia had a green thumb and enjoyed gardening as well. Since retiring she and Ted enjoyed traveling to the Canadian Rockies and to Arizona. With her daughter Cie, she traveled on both the east and west coasts. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 11:00 AM at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio with Rev. Ric Barnes officiating. Burial at Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio. Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday from 6-8pm.
