Vernon Ray "Vern" Schilling, of Troy, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, at Brookdale Senior Living in Troy. He was born January 2, 1927 in Zanesville, OH to the late Ray and Bessie L.(Osborne) Schilling.

He is survived by his children: Mark (Yuko) Schilling of Tokyo, Japan; Jeff (Jenny) Schilling of Troy, OH; Sandy (Mark) Jones of Troy, OH and Dave (Tonya) Schilling of Johnstown, OH; grandchildren: Ray and Lisa Schilling of Tokyo, Japan; Jessica (Shawn) Miller of Fishers, IN; Emily (Rob) Huber of Reynoldsburg, OH; Sarah Schilling of Lewis Center, OH; Angie (Jim) Boggess of Fletcher, OH; Bryan (Lyndsey) Jones of Beavercreek, OH; Malle Schilling of Zanesville, OH; Coady (Faith) Brown of Westerville, OH and Cori-Ann Brown of Westerville, OH; great-grandchildren: Aleah, Blake, Cylah, Layla, Nolen and Brynn and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife: Margaret "Maggie" (Rea) Schilling on December 29, 2011 and his brother: Everett E. Schilling. Vern graduated from Lash High School in Zanesville and The Ohio State University.  He served his country in the US Army during WWII.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Troy.  He was a manager for JC Penney Company for 39 years, retiring in 1987 in Newark where he and Maggie lived for 32 years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and visiting Civil War battlefield sites.  Another big interest was his extended family, with which he and Maggie stayed in close contact over the years.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church, 110 West Franklin Street, Troy with Rev. Dave Leckrone officiating.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00-11:00AM on Wednesday at the church.  A graveside service will take place in Memorial Park, Zanesville, OH at 3:30PM on Wednesday with military honors.
