Thomas Edward Sheehan, 90, of Troy, Ohio, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on January 6, 2025. Thomas was born on April 22, 1934, in Belleville, Illinois. He spent most of his life in the Belleville area.
Thomas proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Salem from 1951 - 1955. Upon returning home, he pursued his education, graduating from Belleville Area College and earning a Bachelor of Science in Journalism from Southern Illinois University.
Thomas joined the Catholic Fraternal Life (formerly C K & L of I) in 1970, and was elected President in 1992. He served as President of the Illinois Fraternal Congress, and President of the National Fraternal Congress of America from 1995 - 1996.
Thomas' contributions and impact extended to many other organizations. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church Choir, C K & L of I Council #21, Knights of Columbus Council #1028, BPOE Lodge 481, the Belleville Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and the Belleville Rotary Club, where he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow Award, and was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy OH. Tom loved playing golf with friends, singing and listening to music, and the St. Louis Cardinals.
Thomas is survived by his devoted wife of more than 65 years, Peggy (nee Lorenz) Sheehan; his children, Lynn Smith (Arthur) and Tom Sheehan, Jr. (Karen); his grandchildren, Daniel Sheehan (Jessica), Caitlin Smith, Charles Sheehan, Laura Mervel (Ian), Peter Sheehan (Kyri), Joseph (Tiyanna, fiancée) Sheehan; great-grandchildren, Eloise and Harrison Sheehan; sister-in-law Anita Sheehan; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace (née Frailey) Sheehan, Sr.; three brothers, Charles Sheehan Jr., John Sheehan, and James Sheehan; and three sisters, Mary Schoer, Kathleen Godwin, and Jo Anne Bergadine.
Together with his wife, Peggy, he created a home brimming with love, laughter, and lasting memories. Thomas will be remembered as a man of steadfast faith, unyielding devotion to his family, and a deep commitment to his community.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM on January 13, 2025 at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Fr. Steve Shoup officiating. Burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery in Troy, Ohio. The family will be at the church prior to Mass to greet friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Thomas' memory to Diabetes Dayton, National Marfan Foundation, and the Ohio Hospice of Miami County.
