THOMAS J. HUGHES, age 73, of Troy passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Koester Pavilion in Troy after an extended illness.  He was born in Chicago, IL on November 11, 1940 to the late Joseph W. and Margaret (Mitchell) Hughes.

Thomas is survived by three children and spouses: Shane and Callie Hughes of San Antonio, TX, Sheri Hicks and Robert and Amy Hughes, all of Troy, OH; two sisters: Pat Frigo of Elmhurst, IL and Suzy Critchett of Park Forest, IL; six grandchildren: Joseph, Lacie and Brittany Hughes, Jacob and Brandon Knoop and Jordan Hughes; two great grandchildren: Dominic and Violet Hughes; and his friend and companion of 15 years: Shadow.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister: Peggy Hughes.

Thomas proudly served his country as a member of the US Marines during both the Vietnam War and the Cuban Conflict.  He was a helicopter gunner and mechanic.  Thomas drove a truck as an owner/operator his entire working career of 50 years.

Friends may visit from 5-7 PM on Monday at Baird Funeral Home in Troy.  Memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM on Monday, August 25, 2014 at the funeral home.  Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
