Susan M. McDevitt Utrecht, age 84, of Troy, Ohio died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at her residence surrounded by loved ones. She was born September 26, 1927 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late James A. McDevitt and Susan Kearney McDevitt. Sue is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, James D. and Lynn Utrecht of Troy; Steven T. and Pamela Utrecht of Boca Raton, Florida; Fr. Daniel S. Utrecht of Toronto, Canada; Gregory F. Utrecht of Troy; and Jonathan A. Utrecht of Troy; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa S. and Bill Schmelzer of Dublin, Ohio; brothers and sister-in-law, James P. McDevitt of Lexington, Kentucky and Thomas K. and Rebecca McDevitt of Cincinnati; sister, Eileen Nicolet of Fresno, California; eight grandchildren and countless loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Sue was a long standing member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy where she was a lector, chair and volunteer-at-large of numerous parish committees, and on the St. Patrick Elementary School Board. Active in the Troy community since 1956, Sue was a member of Book Club of Troy, Country Workshop, Troy Civic Theatre and the City of Troy Board of Architectural Review as well as numerous volunteer and charitable activities. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the School of Art, Architecture, and Design at the University of Cincinnati in 1949 and used her love of fashion as a dress buyer and assistant manager with Uhlman's Department Store. She was a retired area realtor after 20 years of service and currently was a referral agent with Miami County Referral Services, Inc. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00AM Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Troy, Ohio with the Rev. Fr. Daniel S. Utrecht officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy, Ohio. The family will receive friends at the Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio from 4:00-8:00PM on Friday. A rosary service will follow at 8:00PM on Friday at the funeral home.
