Shirley A. Dawson of Troy, OH passed away Wednesday, April 19, 2017.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Lorell and Sylvia (DeHart) Weiss.

Shirley was born October 5, 1934, in Chicago, Illinois.  She attended Manchester College, Wright State University, and Bowling Green State University  receiving Bachelor, Master, and Education Specialist degrees.  She was a teacher at Troy Junior High School for over thirty years.   An active volunteer, she served the Troy Church of the Brethren, where she was a member for nearly fifty years, Habitat for Humanity, and in retirement at Partners in Hope in Troy and at the Brethren Heritage Center in Brookville.  Shirley enjoyed travel, visiting with family and friends, yard landscaping, sewing, quilting, cross-stitching, collecting nativity scenes, walking, riding her bicycle, and genealogy.  Her research on family history was extensive.

Shirley is survived by her husband of over 60 years, James Dawson, of Troy, OH.  Also, surviving are seven children:  Annette Dawson of Lebanon ,OH; Nadine (and George) Moore of Lexington, VA; Douglas (and Mariely) Dawson of Ashland, OH; Donald (and Kim Williams) Dawson of Shawnee KS. ; Paul Dawson of Troy, OH; Steven Dawson of Woodside CA.; and Karen (and Mark) Durbin of Springboro, OH.  She is also survived by one brother, Dr. Robert (and Mabel Lou) Weiss of Staunton, VA, and by three granddaughters.

Memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Troy Church of the Brethren, 1431 West Main Street, Troy, OH with Pastor Jon Keller officiating. Family will receive friends after the service.
