Obituary

Sara Josephine Drake Resler, 92, passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2010 after a long and fulfilling life. Josephine was born to Harry and Ruth Vandeveer Drake April 29, 1918. Both of them preceded her in death. She was married to Floyd E. Resler on August 6, 1940 and he survives her. Josephine is also survived by a daughter, Sara Duff of Casstown, Ohio; daughter-in-law, Judy Resler of Troy, Ohio; grandchildren, Rita Ken Petersen, Chris Marilyn Duff, Melinda Jon Laughman, Jon Regina Duff, Lucia Omer Duncan, Kyle Amanda Resler, Kara Kevin Hamilton and Lori Jeff Smith; great-grandchildren, Jenna Brent Clark, Stephanie and Zack Duff, Mallory, Jesse and Madeline Laughman, Veronica and Jon-Max Dotson, Max and Joseph Duncan; Kayla and Kole Resler, and Violet Hamilton; and great-greatgrandchildren, Madison and Sofie King. Josephine is also survived by a sister-in-law, Lois Heffner as well as several nieces and nephews in the area. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Marsha Matt; son, Gene Resler; son-in-law, Max Duff and great grandson, Nicholas Duff. Educated at Wittenburg University, she first earned her teaching credentials in 1938 and a B.S. in Elementary Education in 1957. Josephine was a dedicated teacher who touched many lives, teaching hundreds of second graders to read. She held teaching positions at both the old Elizabeth Township and Lostcreek Township Schools in Miami County, Graham South in Champaign County and ended her 35 years in education at the New Carlisle-Bethel School District in Clark County. She taught with enthusiasm and always looked for a better way to motivate children to read. During her lengthy career she participated in several government pilot programs that evolved into Title I and Title II Reading as well as the L. D. or Learning Disabled classes. After her retirement she and her husband Floyd enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Fort Myers, Florida. Her other interests were sewing, gardening and her church. She influenced her family by leading through example with a positive attitude, deep faith and strong work ethic. She was a member of Cove Springs Church, a past member of the Farm Bureau Council and Retired Teachers organizations. Family will receive friends from 1:00 - 3:00PM on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, Ohio. Services will be private with interment in Casstown Cemetery, Casstown, Ohio.
