Ruth Dilworth Ruth Dilworth of Troy, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her home on August 31, 2011. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Mae Harmon, a brother, Joseph Harmon and three nephews. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Dilworth of Troy and Diana Michael Robinson, also of Troy; one son, David Debra Dilworth of Thornton, Colorado; grandsons, James Melanie Pearson of Eugene, Oregon and Jeffrey Katie Pearson of Columbus, Ohio; great-grandson, Freeman Pearson of Eugene, Oregon and great-granddaughters, Lillian and twins, Abbigail and Ella of Columbus, Ohio. She is also survived by her brother, Tom Harmon of Dayton, Ohio and a niece, Marilyn Harmon of Fairborn, Ohio. Ruth was a lifelong resident of Troy and the last surviving member of the Troy High School Class of 1930. She graduated in the middle of the depression, when jobs were scarce and times were tough. She first worked at the old Hobart Cabinet Company, hand-addressing advertising cards and later worked in the business office until 1942 for $17.40 a week, a good salary for a young girl at that time. She later was employed at Aeroproducts and General Motors in Dayton, retiring in 1979. She enjoyed her retirement and traveled extensively to many foreign countries. Among her many adventures, she walked along the Great Wall of China, rode an elephant in Thailand, saw King Tut's tomb and rode a camel in Egypt, explored Machu Pichu in Peru, and traveled to Russia in her nineties. She took her grandsons white-water rafting in Colorado, and took several rides in hot-air balloons. She attended many Elderhostels throughout the world and corresponded for many years with the friends she made there. Although never a competitor, she loved playing golf. While a member at Miami Shores, she had the thrill of her life when she got a hole-in-one on the back nine. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Troy and the Troy Senior Citizens. She also played in several card clubs until her eyesight and energy started to fail. She enjoyed her two grandsons, James and Jeffrey, her four great-grandchildren, Freeman, Abbigail, Ella and Lilly, and her companion, dog Mickey, who preceded her in death by three weeks. She never lost her interest in activities, her love of learning and adventure, or her devotion to her friends and family, even as her mobility lessened. She lived life to the fullest with humor and love and although she will be greatly missed by her family, her spirit will always be with us, and her love will live forever in our hearts. Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, with visitation from 12-2PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Miami County, P.O. Box 502, Troy, Ohio 45373. Friends may also express condolences to the family through www.bairdfuneralhome.com.
