Ruth A. Canan Ruth A. Canan, age 92, of Troy, Ohio, passed away at 11:58PM on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at her residence. She was born on April 21, 1919 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Houghton Arthur and Marie Smith Hancock. She was married to Thomas E. Newell and he preceded her in death in 1974. She later married Robert A. Canan and he preceded her in death in 1992. Mrs. Canan is survived by her son, Jonathan A. Newell of Troy and special friend, Connie I. Wynn; daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Gabe Bruno of Chuluota, Florida; five grandchildren: Tommy, Annie, Nicholas, Ashley and Michael; several great-grandchildren; and special friends Jim Hydeck of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Billie Poston of Bethel Township, Ohio. In addition to her parents and her spouses, Mrs. Canan was preceded in death by her brother, Carl Hancock. She was a graduate of Steele High School in Dayton and a homemaker. She was also a longtime active member in her card club; and she was of the Methodist Faith. Funeral services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy with interment to follow in Riverside Cemetery, Troy.
