ROY HERBERT STICHTER
ROY HERBERT STICHTER, age 94, of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, passed away on Friday, February 06, 2015 at the Brethren's Home in Greenville, Ohio. Roy was born May 7, 1920 in Covington, Ohio to the late B. Harrison and Elsie (Grove) Stichter. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Nancy (Kessler) Stichter in 2008.
Roy is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Gary and Diane McMullin of Muncie, Indiana; daughter: Carol Fessler of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren: Brian and Sharon Brammer of Spring, Texas, Zane and Dana Fessler of Medina, Ohio and Amber Fessler of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; with two great grandchildren: Ethan Brammer and Dean Fessler. In addition to his parents and his wife, Roy was preceded in death by brother: Ralph Stichter; sisters: Treva Landis and Ruth Wackler; and son-in-law, Tony Fessler.
Roy was a Naval Veteran of World War II as an aviation maintenance first class seaman and aerial photographer in the Asiatic Pacific under Admiral Nimitz. He was a 1939 graduate of Troy High School.
He then married his wife, Nancy, and moved to Pleasant Hill. Roy retired in 1984 from Hobart Manufacturing in Troy as Chief Inspector after 23 years of service. He had worked 15 years prior with General Motors as a Model Maker. While living in Pleasant Hill for 44 years, he was a member of the Pleasant Hill Volunteer Fire Department and, for over 50 years, a member the local VFW Post #6557. He was also involved with the local Kiwanis and Boy Scouts. Roy belonged to the Franklin Masonic Lodge #14 in Troy, Ohio for 55 years and was a 32 nd degree member of the Scottish Rite in Dayton, Ohio. He was also a recent Grand Marshal in the annual Pleasant Hill's Veterans parade. Roy was also active with Greenville Shuffleboard Club and Greenville, Troy and Vandalia Senior's groups.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at Baird Funeral Home in Troy with his nephew, Russell Landis, officiating. Burial will follow in Miami Memorial Park in Covington. Friends may call from 10-11 AM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
