Obituary

Roger Lee Jones, age 77, of Troy, OH passed away on December 22, 2025 at the Dayton VA Medical Center Hospice. He was born on February 1, 1948 in Steubenville, OH to the late Charles E. and Thelma Belle (Owen) Jones.

He is survived by his wife of 26 years: Rebecca "Beckie" (Keechle) Jones; eight children: LeeAnne (Eddie) Back of Columbus, Michelle (Jesse) Staten of Covington, Jamie (Jason) Mills of Bradford, Jessica (Matt) Peacock of Sidney, Jonathan (Betsy) Mills of Troy, Andrea (Casey) Schneberger of Chickasaw, OK, Matthew Mills of Troy and Logan (Fiance' Brooklyn Felver) Jones of Troy;  sixteen grandchildren: Taylor, Chelsea, Samantha, Kayla, Kyle, Sage, MaKayla, Lainey, Caden, Justin, Brant, Addysen, Colton, Emmalynn, Tanner, Maverick and one on the way; seven great grandchildren and one on the way; one brother: Greg (Cindy) Jones of WV; mother-in-law: Judi V. Hill of Troy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers: Ed, Jack and Allen Jones and one sister: Darla Jones.

Roger served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Vietnam War from 1966-1969. He was a lifetime member of Springfield AMVETS Post 25 and Troy Post 88 where he served as a past officer. He was a member of the Miami Valley Veterans Museum, Veterans Operation Caregiver support, Ohio Buckeye Hunt and Buckeye Wood Carvers. He participated in the Logan County Freedom Flight and enjoyed his Vietnam Veterans Reunions. He was formerly employed with Meritor, Hobart Brothers Ground Power and Staunton Country Store. He loved doing wood carvings, fishing, going to the casino and especially spending time with his family and grandkids. He was known for being stubborn and having a witty humor.

The family would like to thank the Dayton VA and Dayton VA Hospice during his final days and a special thanks to all the nurses at the Dayton VA Hospice.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 PM on January 8, 2026 at Baird Funeral Home, Troy. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Interment will take place in the Dayton National Cemetery on January 9, 2026.
