IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Robert L.
Rudy
October 6, 1924 – December 14, 2014
Robert L. Rudy, age 90, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 14 th , at his residence in Troy. He was born on October 6th 1924 in Pleasant Hill Ohio to the late Harry and Anna "Bessie" Rudy. His wife, Grace Ann (Hofman) Rudy, preceded him in death on July 11, 1994.
Robert is survived by his three sons: Michael Rudy of Redmond, WA, Christopher Rudy of Emigrant, MT and Robert C. Rudy of Troy; and his three daughters: Janice (David) Hoak of Spokane, WA, Lisa Grace of Guemes Island, WA and Linda (Frank) Sebenius of Carnation, WA. He is also survived by brothers Harry Lee Rudy of Tallahassee, FL, and Grayson Rudy of Centerville, OH, as well as 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Attending Duke University during his WWII US Navy service training, Robert was discharged in 1945 after an injury. He moved his young family to Troy in 1952. As a land developer and contractor, he planned and built the subdivision roads, utilities, apartments and homes for hundreds of Troy residents over the next 40 years. Robert retired to Fairhope, AL, after Grace's passing, returning to Troy to live in 2013.
With his strong and clear voice ringing out, Robert was an active member of the Methodist Church choir until his 87 th year. He was also a lifetime member and supporter of the Troy Noon Optimist Club and the Troy Elks. Fishing and golf were his lifelong sporting passions, and among family he was known as the king of ping pong and croquet.
Our Dad really was an optimist. He lived the creed. He was joyful in his love of God, country, and family. He loved life, as much as anyone we have ever known. He had a big heart, a big smile, and a song for every occasion. He was a good representative of his generation, the greatest generation. He was a bright light who in voice and spirit made "a joyful noise unto the Lord".
A memorial service to celebrate his life, hosted by his sons Michael and Robert, will be held at the Baird Funeral Home on Friday, January 30 th at 11AM. His final rest will be at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may express their messages to the family through www.bairdfuneralhome.com .
