Obituary

Robert G. Newman, 84, of Troy, passed away Thursday, December 25, 2008 at 11:20 am at Grandview Hospital in Dayton. He was born November 11, 1924 in Fairhope, Alabama to the late Raymond and Loa McBride Newman. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Eileen King Newman; daughters and son-in-law, Linda and Jerry Pearson of Ft. Loramie, Ohio, and Elizabeth Revolt of Fairhope, Alabama; sons and daughters-in-law, Mike and Karen Newman of Troy, and Don and Chris Newman of Sidney. He is also survived by a brother, Edgar Newman of Sarasota, Florida; sisters, Doris Dornquast of Bayminnette, Alabama, and Betty Shellabarger of Dayton; nine grandchildren, Annie, Dan, Gary, Mike, Sarah, Greg, Tammy, Craig, and Nathan; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a special cousin, Jane Staver of West Milton, Ohio. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Donald, Keith, and Raymond. Robert was a U.S. Army WWII Veteran; a member of Moose Lodge and Eagles; and of Troy Fish and Game Club, where he was the oldest living member. He was a former farmer and was formerly with King's Sales and Service, which he owned along with his father-in-law. He was also retired from Miami County Garage. There will be a private service for the family upon their convenience. Friends may call from 2 to 4 pm on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at Baird Funeral Home.
