Obituary

Richard Lee Knife, 79, of Tipp City, Ohio, passed away on December 8, 2009, at 10:15 PM at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Tipp City on October 7, 1930, to the late Orville and Mary Harshman Knife. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janet Filbrun Knife; children, Ricky Marcia Knife of Casstown, Ohio, Vicky Charles Shilt of Bradford, Ohio, Tim Gaile Knife of Troy, Ohio, Dan Mary Knife of Troy, Ohio, and Rob Emily Knife of Piqua, Ohio; grandchildren, Angela Chris Thompson, Tiffany Brian Hilliard, Ted Shilt, Kimberly Casey Canan, Eric Jennifer Knife, Bradley Knife, Jennifer Knife, Cody Knife, and Kaitlin Knife; and great-grandchildren, Brianna, Isaac, Alex, Logan, Haley, Emma, Rylee, Owen, Lilly, and Dominique. He is also survived by his best friend, Pepper, and numerous friends and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Don Knife. He was a 1948 graduate of Elizabeth High School and a member of Cove Spring Church where he was a past Sunday School Superintendent and church treasurer. He was a member of Cove Spring Grange and held several offices in the grange, and was also a member of Miami Pomona Grange, Ohio State Grange, and the National Grange. He was a past 4-H advisor and Little League Baseball Coach. He and his wife were the 2001 Strawberry Golden Couple. He enjoyed tractor pulls and worked at Miami Valley International Trucks for 37 ½ years. Services will be held at Baird Funeral Home in Troy, Ohio, at 10:30 AM on Saturday, December 12, 2009, with Pastor Evan Garber presiding. Interment will follow at Casstown Cemetery in Casstown, Ohio. Friends may call at Baird Funeral Home, Troy, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Friday with a Grange service at 8 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Cove Spring Grange and Hospice of Miami County.
